South African born John Geber and his wife Evelyne are the proud owners of Cowra Estate and share their passion for fine wines. They are dedicated e ambassadors for the Cowra region with their  export brands Eagle Rock and Naturally Australian, all made from Cowra Estate fruit.

The first vines were planted in 1973 by the late Tony Gray and pioneered viticulture in the area. John and Evelyne purchased the estate in 1993 and in 1998 became the proud custodians of Château Tanunda in the Barossa Valley. Vineyards in premium growing areas like the Barossa and Cowra allow the best selection of grapes for typical varietal classes.

Cowra Estate is not only home to the oldest Chardonnay plantings in Australia but also other grape varieties like Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Traminer and Petit Verdot are grown. Back in the seventies, the famous Rothbury Estate Cowra Chardonnay by Brian Croser was predominantly made from Cowra Estate fruit as well as his Petaluma Chardonnay, both making the region famous for its ideal terroir for Chardonnay.

Contract winemaker Simon Gilbert and John R. Geber are putting together the blends for the 2009 vintage. A winning team and we expect some great wines with the typical flavours that only the Cowra region can produce.
